Struggles In Conjuring

A 4 track breaks ep (23m 24s) — released May 26th 2021 on Negative Space [Ma]

Hailing from Sheffield – a cultural hub for UK underground sound, having birthed bleep techno and many electronic stalwarts such as WARP – unperson has quickly defined his own unique lane of deeply atmospheric and percussive bass-laden electronics. He distinguishes himself with fwd production techniques, clever methodology and a unique vision; a delicate sound design and introspective melodies blend with moody atmospherics in a style that isn't confined to a specific era or genre besides his own. 'Struggles In Conjuring' exemplifies this and experiments with emotion in ambient textures, hypnotic patchworks and jagged breaks, as unperson journeys through personal grapples in a world that can seem hollow and fractured.

The EP sees unperson step further out of the "corners of the club" than he has in his output to date; with an alluringly warm introduction, 3 tracks primed for peak dancefloor dismantling and a remix from man-of-the-moment DJ Python - who had a career defining 2020 after releasing his 'Mas Amable' album (#1 in Resident Advisor Album of The Year 2020, #3 on Crack Magazine's Best Albums Of 2020, #87 in Pitchfork's 100 Best Songs of 2020 etc). Having seen support from Mixmag, DJ Mag, Resident Advisor, BBC 6Music, BBC R1 Residency, NTS, Rinse FM, Call Super, upsammy, Errorsmith, Machine Woman, Minor Science, India Jordan, AYA, Bruce etc., unperson continues to set himself apart with this collection of tracks.

With roots in Sheffield, rising producer unperson is definitely attuned to the codes and rhythms of industrial British dance music, but his productions and selections are anything but nostalgic. - Crack Magazine Press

To be defined by a singular trait is an ego-deflating, horror of a thing. Which is why it's abslutely so hyper-great that Sheffield producer unperson floats so ably in the no man's land between styles [...] A pretty astoundingly rounded debut (9/10) - DJ Mag Press

Love the textures, beautiful stuff [...] these kids are the future of dance music - Saoirse DJ

Thanks! I’ve played a lot over the last 6 months - Call Super DJ

A special rising talent. Very rarely do you see such a developed signature sound this early and I’m certain that is a sign of his future. A stirring and forward-facing songwriter/sound-designer - Raj Chaudhuri DJ/Curator
